Olympic Peninsula > Kitsap Peninsula
Wide road

I hiked this in the winter and it was nice, but muddy and cold. We tried to take the kids during a nice weekend in March (just after many businesses were closed due to Covid) and the place was so packed it was difficult to get back out of the parking lot to go somewhere else. We finally made it back to try again on an overcast but warm July weekday.

The parking lot was not too busy, less than half full. We started up the first hill on the trail and had to pull to the side multiple times to let people pass on their way down. Everyone was friendly. On one of those pauses I was stung by something wasp-like (didn't get a long look) through my sock. Hurt like heck!! We were not at the top of the hill yet and my ankle was throbbing, so we headed back to the car for a sting wipe. It didn't help as much as I would've liked, so we decided to just walk the road out and back. Easy wide, definitely popular as we passed multiple groups. The sign for the waterfall was missing this time, but I knew where to go and it's not hard to find. It was crowded there. A large group was hanging out at the falls so we just got to peek at them and then turned around and headed out. There are nice stairs helping you get down to the falls and back out. There are more trails to explore, including Zach's lookout, so we will probably return. But maybe I'll wear long pants next time.
