First “real” hike of the day, after the road walk to Slate Peak Lookout and the drive up to First Butte Lookout.
The scenery and the views are markedly different from lookouts near the Cascade Crest. I highly recommend visiting this one if in the area.
It’s a nice hike up a gradual grade, with a trail profile much like Goat Peak (Lookout).
Paintbrush, beargrass, and other varieties of flowers are in bloom. It’s gorgeous.
The fire lookout is still in service by USFS, I think. If so, it’s closed to the public [this year at least].
