Ladder Creek Falls, Trail of the Cedars — Saturday, Jul. 25, 2020

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
closed pedestrian bridge at falls

Went out towards North Cascades for a change of pace from lots of birding.  Stopped in Newhalem, parked in the visitor parking, did the Trail of Cedars and then walked over to Ladder Creek Falls.  Not a huge amount of walking; all was pretty well maintained and marked.

The store and restrooms were closed but alternate honeybuckets were provided.

Trail of Cedars had lovely, if a bit dated, interpretive signage. There were some edge of ripeness blackberries to be had if you paid attention.

Ladder Creek Falls was a bit of a surprise.  The pedestrian bridge into the falls is closed but you can walk across the power house bridge to its west and behind the power house to access the garden and falls.  The gardens could be amazing if some effort was spent on maintaining them.  Plants spilled into walkways and none of the old water features were in use but were quite obvious.  The falls themselves are not huge but still a joy to look at. Would like to see Seattle City Light take maintaining the beauty they have a bit more seriously.  Huckleberry was on the edge of ripeness all through the garden.
