Icicle Gorge Nature Loop — Friday, Jul. 24, 2020

Central Cascades > Leavenworth Area

Trip Report:  Upper & Lower Icicle Gorge Loop
Rating:  Upper Trail:  1.5 of 5 stars
Lower River Loop Trail:  5 of 5 stars
My opinions.  Overall, the lower loop trail is great for beginner hikers. It is a well-maintained trail.  At four miles, it may be a little hard for small children, but it’s worth a try.  Not very much elevation gain and there are a lot of places to explore along the gorge.  Lots of cool rocks and rapids.
However, the upper trail (the you get to by crossing the main road) is overgrown in many places.  Also, there is not much to see except trees.  However, we did see bear poop (scat)!
Parking & Road Conditions: For all vehicles.
On a Friday afternoon, around 12:45 pm the parking lot had a few spaces left, but the lot was mostly full.
Snow:  No snow.
Trail & trail conditions:  Lower trail was very good.  Upper trail had lots of overgrowth, but you could get through it and the trail was easy to follow.
Bugs:  None.
Views:  Lower River Loop had gorgeous views of the gorge.
Flowers:  A few.
Time:  Two 62 year olds took about 3 hours for both trails.

BirdieZ3 on Icicle Gorge Nature Loop

Can you tell me if this trail has a location close to the start that would allow for a wheelchair bound person to access and enjoy the river?

No river access for wheelchair

I think there is no river access from the start of the trail.
If you go down the road from the trail and turn left, you get to a bridge next to the campsite where you could see the gorge.
You can get next to the river in the Leavenworth city trail.
Iron Horse Trail has a nice wheelchair accessible trail.
