Unfortunately WTA report template doesn't have a choice for terrible trail tread. Trail has been totally trashed by dirt bikers. Steep, rutted to the point of being V-shaped, extremely dusty.
We first stopped at Lost Lake, about 2 miles in. Nice lake with some camping spots just off the trail. Make sure you walk perhaps a half-mile further, switchbacking up to the top where your reward will be meadow flowers and views of the wind towers around Ellensburg. Out of time and energy so did not proceed to Manashtash Lake.
We camped at the trailhead. Don't know if that's allowed but they had a nice space with picnic table, access to privy, and a large picnic table. Oh yes, there is an dirt bike trail that goes directly thru the site. But only one dirt bike party came thru this route.
