A nice pocket of PNW greenery nestled in Bothell's suburbia.
But it has a couple drawbacks:
- The northern branch of the trail seems to get less activity. The trail gets narrow at points and had a non-trivial number of spiderwebs blocking the path (mid-day during the summer). I'd recommend ankle/leg protection.
- The forest isn't far from 405, so the sound of traffic never really dies off.
- A minimal amount of human defacement: graffiti on concrete, and a few random car parts strewn about.
It has nice terrain elevation changes. These coupled with some narrower trails give the feel of being an actual hike and more than just a walking trail.
This is the best map I could find (linked from the city's website).
The trail head/entrance is a tad confusing:
- Entering from the south side there is a gate, it appears guests are to just part on the south side of the gate.
- There is also an entrance from the north bend of 106 Ave NE (along the west side of the forest).
Altogether a pleasant hike worth doing, but not maintained to the level of other nearby parks.
