Trip Report

The Enchantments — Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020

Central Cascades > Leavenworth Area

BABY BEAR SIGHTING. Did a thru-hike of the Enchantments Saturday and had a baby bear stumble across our path at (47.61931, -120.71777) roughly an hour from the Snow Lake Trailhead. The BEAR was five feet in front and went running ahead of us down the trail. The mom was behind us and above on the hill (not good!) but luckily reconnected with her cub without incident. We were lucky to have a group of 5+ people with bear spray, loud poles, and black bear experience. The thimble berries are ripe in the valley below snow lake so just be alert while hiking! Also be sure to bring a bear can or properly hang your food if you're camping at Snow Lake.

Other trip reports can cover the need to get to the Colchuck trailhead before 6am to find parking, the great new cairns in the Core Zone, and a snow free Asgard pass. Took us 11.5hrs to do the entire thru hike including a long lunch break and leisurely snack breaks.
