Aside from the mosquitoes and spraining my ankle on the way back, it was a pretty great day on the trail.
Started on the trail at 0550, two other cars at the trailhead. Made it to Eunice Lake around 0700, met a couple of young deer grazing and having zoomies. Saw a few chipmunks, a vole, a few gray jays and an eagle as well on the day.
Wildflowers were in a mix of not quite bloomed and others a little past their prime but still plenty of color. Lots of cascade aster, lupines, tiger lilies and more. Huckleberries look to be coming in before too long.
Made it to the peak at 0730. I stayed for a bit to get some photos but the mosquitoes chased me off fairly quickly. They got worse the higher it got, so the few around Mowich didn't seem noticeable by comparison. There was no breeze at all which didn't help with the bugs.
Sprained my ankle on the return just below Eunice Lake rolling it on a loose rock on the trail. I wrapped my ankle and fought the pain to hike back to the car. Stumbled upon the same zoomy deer couple back at the trailhead. Made it back to the car by 0930.
Passed more than a dozen groups on the way back, 75-80% masked at least.
Hoping this sprain won't keep me off the trail very long.
