My friends and I decided to do a sunrise hike this morning as the weather was clear and calm.
Got to the trail head at 4AM. Lots of Elk were on the road as we came in so if you are doing an early hike keep an eye out.
We were completely alone for the majority of the trail. Got to the lookout at about 5:45AM. Two others were at the top when we arrived and a few more got there as we sat to watch the sunrise.
As others have reported the mosquitoes arrived with the sun and were pretty ruthless.
Spotted a few willow flycatchers on the way down. They aren't afraid of people at all and seemed very curious about the hikers (probably hoping for a snack).
On our way down we stopped at Eunice lake and spotted a brown bear among the north facing hillside. Probably about 200 ft from the trail we watched it go into the trees and disappear. So make sure you pack out any food or trash you have with you! We found a few wrappers along the trail, we picked them up to dispose of at the Mowich Lake Campground.
