We started this hike on a foggy Saturday morning, starting about 9:00 am at the TH. The description is spot-on. It is up and down - net change in elevation ~1100 feet, total elevation gain for us was ~3400 feet with the side trip to Sawyer Mountain on our way back to the TH. Some mosquitoes, but mostly the breeze helped keep them away. The steeper parts near the end were very rutted, lots of roots, almost washed out in a few places. Definitely more of a challenge coming back down! There were several overnight backpackers already camped by the time we got there, with half a dozen more groups headed in as we descended. Views were great despite the clouds. By the time we got back to the Sawyer Mountain trail the sun was brilliant, so we headed up for the views and were not disappointed. Total of ~12.3 miles all told, and all worth it.
