This was an awesome hike to Panhandle gap. I started at noon on a Wednesday and was able to snag a spot on the side of the road. Trail is in really good condition, especially for the first 4.2 miles to Summerland, just a lot of forest walking and a steady uphill climb. Once you get to Summerland it's pure glory. Lots of great views of Rainier and the surrounding peaks. Definitely worth it to keep going to Panhandle gap. Just 2 tiny snow fields that were easy to cross. The last 1.8 miles from Summerland to the gap were on rocks with epic views, but definitely a little bit of route finding and careful stepping. Took about 2 hours and 45 minutes to get from TH to the gap, with a few stops for pictures/snacks. Back at the car at 5:30pm.
