Trip Report

Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge - Dungeness Spit — Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast

Parking was very full at the parking lot closest to the Dungeness Spit trail access. There is a bathroom near this parking lot. There were some groups of people not wearing masks on the trail. The trail has clear signs for the one way direction change. It was a very busy, popular trail for a sunny day. Most people weren’t doing the beach hike all the way to the lighthouse. It was a beautiful day and worth the beach hike. I saw some beach mice in addition to the expected seagulls. I recommend bug spray as there are some gnats that get kicked up if the kelp piles are disturbed when walking. There are a lot of picnic tables along the trail that overlook the beach.
