I decided to camp at the TH the night prior to. There is a large old washout prior to the main parking lot and cars are parked alongside the FR for quite a while. I realized the next day that most of these cars are backpackers, as I only ran into 5 people the entire day. It appears that everyone up there stopped prior to the true summit. The trail feels quite similar to Cascade Pass but starts out with several miles of straight gentle grade. The last mile gains 1k, but you barely notice it with wildflowers and views abounding. The views are stunning. Ruth is in your face. Baker was shrouded out all day, but the surrounding peaks did not disappoint!

CapnCrumples on Hannegan Pass and Peak
Roughly how far from the trailhead is the washout? And is there really only one campsite at the trailhead, as the forest service website says? Please and thanks for the info!
