Trip Report

Deception Pass State Park - Goose Rock — Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island

Since we were camping, we started our hike from the Forest Loop campground and walked along both West and North beach trails to get to the trailhead near the bridge. We followed the WTA guidance for walking the Goose Rock Perimeter trail first until the junction for the Summit trail. There's one unmarked junction along the perimeter trail that gave us pause since the hike descriptions says you should head up. We checked our hike tracker app and confirmed we still had about 300ft more to go along the perimeter trail before the switchbacks started. Glad we checked or we would have got the wrong way.

The weather was beautiful and we had gorgeous views of Mt. Baker and the sound. Passed several groups of people on the Goose Rock side most of whom weren't bothering with masks even in passing. The majority on the North Beach side had masks but still passed some large family groups not bothering.
