Road: Some recent trip reports have mentioned that the road is in bad shape. We thought just the opposite. We thought that road 6520 was perhaps the best forest service road we've traveled in quite a while. One must keep in mind that this is an unpaved, forest service road, and yes, there are occasional potholes.
Trail: Excellent
Our destination: We stopped at Scorpion Mtn and did not go down to Lake Joan.
Weather: Very good; no wind; pleasant temps
Visibility: Very bad due to smoke; no distant mountains were visible; the sky had an orange tinge. :-(
Number of people on trail: Not many - maybe 10 or 12 people all day. There were 7 cars in the parking lot when we arrived at about 10:30a and 2 cars (other than ours) when we departed at about 4:20p.
Covid issues: About 3/4 the people wore masks; everyone was good about distancing.
Bugs: There were few bugs in the morning (when it was cooler), but quite a few mosquitoes (with a few biting flies) later on the summit of Scorpion - consequently, we didn't stay there long.
Flowers & berries: Almost no blueberries; a few flowers within several hundred yards of the top of Scorpion; the flowers that were there were past their prime.
Companion: Amy
Times (for two geezers - one with pulmonary issues): 2:40 hrs car-to-Scorpion; 2:15 hrs Scorpion-to-car; 5:10 hrs car-to-car.
