I love this hike so much! It’s been 5 years since the last time I was up there. This time I came from the east and turned off 2 at lake Wenatchee and took 6700 up that way and the road is great. Easy to follow. Parking is really limited and it’s just on the side of the end of the road- the road in is super narrow. no toilet at the trail head. Saw used TP on the side. Gross. I Was prepared and packed mine out.
the trail is steep and dusty. Most of the 1900” gain is in the first mile and then it’s easier. Similar to mailbox old trail just not quite so steep. It took me 45 mins to get to the lake, about the same amount of time to get down. On the way down I ran into some folks that had been hiking for 2 hours, were exhausted and were only halfway there. Know your limits! This is not really one for the casual Instagram hiker.
I took the trail down to Theseus lake about halfway but it is pretty steep and slippery with loose dirt and rock and some mild exposure and as I was completely alone I Eventually bailed. Next time I’ll bring a buddy and make it down there.
ripe berries in the meadow and at the lake. Bugs were obnoxious. Fall colors are starting! Summer is over folks. Do this one before the snow flies!

The point was not how fast or slow. It’s to make sure you do your research before you go so you know what you’re in for and if you’re up to it. And my pack weighs 25 lbs.

Currently yes as I’m training for some upcoming backpacking trips! Typically it weighs less but I am always prepared for everything especially if I am alone.
