Arrived at the trailhead around 9:45a on Sunday, with only a few other cars parked where the forest road peters out. We encountered only a few parties on the trail, a pretty quiet hike. The trail is as described, and despite reading that this trail is "harder than it reads" I was a little surprised at the effort for 1800'. That might be more due to being a little out of shape...but fairly constant climb.
Those views, though! We had Glacier and Rainier out, and I'm totally smitten with the valley towards Whittier Peak! Berries were ripe for eating but mostly small and unexciting - though there appeared to be a decent patch near the peak. I've done Minotaur Lake (Labyrinth Mountain) and Cady Creek > Lake Sally Ann > Meander Meadow, so it was cool to see those areas from a different vantage point.

apparently there's a "knob" or some type of scramble at some point. Any pictures or descriptions of that? I'm considering this and wondering what this might entail.

I absolutely should have taken a photo of that! It's a really small area, pretty early on in the ridge portion of the trail (coming from Irving Pass trailhead). There is a bit of trail that is sloped sandy rocks/roots leading up to it, then some larger rocks to get up - I found it ok by finding a couple of solid handholds (lots of edges to grab) to hoist myself up - it's not an extensive scramble, just some careful foot/hand placement for big shimmy up. Honestly, was easier coming down because I have no shame and will just sit and scoot if need be. We (in our early 30s) found it totally doable, and there was a large family group with ~11 year olds and their grandparents making it happen at different rates. I'm so sorry for not having a photo - I need to remember to take photos of the trail obstacles and not just the views!
