Trip Report

Golden Horn - Snowy Lakes — Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

Road: paved, no issues

Parking: ample in lot, across the highway in the other lot, and along the road

Trail: Pleasant gentle grade until the descent from Granite pass (along the switch backs so very manageable) and then the final push up to the lakes was tough at the end of the hike (but agree with the other reports-very thankful for the recent trail work!). Spectacular valley views from so many different vistas along the entire hike. Stopped for lunch at cutthroat pass and saw a mountain goat. Camped at Snowy lakes where there were numerous groups on a nice summer weekend (but lots of room to spread out around both lakes). Long but extremely high yield overnight hike, would love to come back with more time and to see the larches in the fall.

Bugs: not a problem

Masks: ~75%

MRV1 on Golden Horn - Snowy Lakes

It seems like there was a marked drop off in the number of people camped at Snowy Lakes from when you were there on the weekend and when I was there a mere two days later. Great spot
