We left on the Friday of Labor Day weekend up the Jordan Creek trail. The road to the trail head was long and dusty 45 minutes, but in good shape for all cars. We started at the Berry Patch Trail head and took Trail #95. The first half of the hike winds gradually up through the forest with a few views of Goat Rocks and Mt. Adams, then drops down into the open for the ascent up to Jordan Basin. Views and wildflowers and an excellent trail made this a wonderful hike. We camped in Jordan Basin where there are lots of dispersed camp sites, even on a busy weekend.
The next day (after a huge night time wind tunnel event) we climbed to to Hawkeye Point for 360 degree views of Mt. Rainier, Mt Adams, Mt. Saint Helens and Heart and Goat lakes. The snow field crossing that has been mentioned in other trip reports is still slick so we opted to hike under it without any problems. After soaking in the views, we descended to Goat Lake - a true alpine beauty of a lake. It was cold and windy there, even on a hot summer day.
We trekked back to our camp in Jordan Basin to lounge out and enjoy the area. Jordan Creek was very low, not sure how much longer there will be water in that basin. Another wind event at night, so we had some more excitement.
