A quick trip to the Seattle area provided time for us to get a solid workout in at Mailbox Peak. We timed it perfectly as the lower parking lot was full. The gate opened right at 8am and snagged a spot!
We took the Old Trail up, knocking out the most difficult section first and the New Trail down. The marine layer was in all morning as we ascended the Old Trail to the top, allowing for the scenery to appear as if we were in a different dimension. The thickness of the tree canopy, the spider web of roots, and occasional rain droplets set an eerie setting until we reached the junction with the New Trail. The visibility didn't improve our entire trek except for small patches of blue sky.
