We arrived at the trailhead around 9:45 and while the parking lot was busy there were still spaces available both in the lot and along the road. It seemed like most people were heading to Barlow Pass and Gothic Basin to overnight.
The trail itself was muddy in places from the recent rains but nothing crazy or impassable. The river was low and the log crossing dry and simple.
We wound up adding on a couple of miles hiking up to see Glacier Falls from Monte Cristo. That stretch was very slick and muddy as there was an overflowing creek actively running down the trail. Above the wet stretch things are a bit overgrown but the trail is still very clear.
This is a really great late summer/early fall hike.
