After many days of rain it was nice to have it a little drier today and I went on a hike with a great group of Mountaineers in the Cedar Butte - Olallie State Park vicinity.
We started at the Cedar Falls trailhead just east of the Rattlesnake trailhead. Followed the Iron Horse Trail to the Cedar Butte trail and took the south option to the Boxley Blowout overlook and then continued on the southern portion of the Cedar Butte trail to the Olallie trail. We then continued further east on the Olallie trail towards Mt Washington to one of the several viewpoints at about 2800 ft elevation. This was our turnaround point and on the way back we took a side trip to the top of Cedar Butte and on the descent took the northern loop portion of the Cedar Butte trail back to the Iron Horse trail.
There were no issues with snow being that we did not go higher than 2800 ft. Total cumulative elevation gain with all the up and down was just over 3000 ft for a total of 12 miles. Great hike!

This sounds like a great hike, especially for late season due to the relatively low elevation. Thanks for the report. Since this hike is not recorded on WTA, I have a couple questions: are the turn-offs/trails you mention signed along the way? And where exactly is the trailhead? Thanks!

Your welcome. The trailhead borders the Rattlesnake Ledges trailhead just to the east. So from I-90 follow the route to get to the Rattlesnake trailhead and then just next to it on the east is the Cedar Falls trailhead. It's well marked and you cant miss it. As for junctions and turnoffs some of them are not well marked and a map helps and a GPS app like Gaia will make it easy.
