Hey folks! Not sure how useful this will be as there is some big snow headed for the mountain loop next week. But who knows! Take care out there.
-- SNOW --
Intermittant snow starting at the trailhead
Constant snow by 4000'
Threw on snowshoes at 4500'
Trailhead still accessible by car, but heard rumors on the trail that the hwy may close next week. Some big snow on the way likely to shut 'er down for the year.
Arrived at 830am to a few cars in the parking lot. Reached the peak by 1230. Ate a leisurely lunch of steak (that I grilled over cast iron and jet boil 🤣) and beers. Back at the parking lot right at sundown circa 430pm.
Snowshoes were super helpful on the way up, as there was tons of fresh pow, but many hikers seemed down for the extra challenge that post holing provides. On the way down, the trail was well enough established that we removed our snowshoes for the descent.
Be sure to bring your GPS / downloaded maps to your phone if there's fresh snow. The trail may not be obvious and some routes are more difficult than others.

You just barely got your hike before that part of the Mtn. Loop Hwy closed
