Graves Creek — Friday, Dec. 11, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast

We did this hike on Friday (12/11). About a quarter mile from where you fork off of the Enchanted Valley trail there is a downed tree. The tree fell parallel on the trail and the branches make it impossible to climb over. We scrambled ~20 ft up the ridge on the left and followed the ridge which joined the trail after ~500 ft.

There were a few other downed trees along the way but nothing that we couldn’t climb over.

There were also two rock slides to cross in the last third of the hike but both were manageable. In between those slides is what previous trip reports have described as a scramble and where they decided to turn around (my initial instinct as well). The trail essentially runs straight into a sheer rock face. You can climb up above the rock face where there is more soil and vegetation. We ended up climbing over and continuing on.

There was a light dusting of snow towards the end. Nothing to factor for at the time. The turnaround spot at the ford was lovely. A few peekaboo views along the way. Total hike time was ~10:30-2:15, going at a medium pace. All in all, the perfect winter hike to justify an indulgent dinner :).
