Trip Report

Tonga Ridge Snowshoe — Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

Similar to the previous trail report, we parked at the final right turn where the trail forks to the right from FR-6830. Our party had two cars: a Subaru Outback and a Subaru WRX Hatchback. Lots of big potholes on the forest road and once the ice and snow started a few miles in, the Hatchback couldn't make the last mile on the road to our parking spot due to clearance issues but the Outback was fine.

Since some previous parties had packed down a trail by foot and by car, we were able to walk to the trailhead and the first mile or so without snowshoes. We passed the first viewpoint and went a total of 3-3.25 miles in (one or two more smaller viewpoints after that), at which point we reached the end of the broken trail. The last half mile or so had a very narrow path with exposure on one side.

We saw no other parties until we returned to our car, where there were two other cars with families that were playing in the snow.
