Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Lots of Driftwood

I stopped by Ruby Beach on my way back from Rialto Beach. I had read you can hike north from the beach access point for 3 miles, but there was no way in the current conditions. I was there at high tide, and the creek just north of the beach access was swollen due to the heavy rains. The creek crossing looked to be two to three feet deep and a hundred feet across. There were lots of people getting way too close to the ocean and nonchalantly turning their backs to it while on the water side of the piles of driftwood. I witnessed multiple people get soaked by sneaker waves in the forty five minutes I was on the beach. It was quite humorous, but they were lucky to only get wet and not get swept out to sea. Despite the weather, it was a really pretty and enjoyable place to witness the power of the ocean.
