Notch Pass, Lower Big Quilcene River — Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

We made an awesome loop out of these two trails. We used bikes to shuttle the four miles back to the car. By starting with Notch Pass the bike ride was mostly downhill. Of note to those driving to NP, the road is not difficult but it has huge puddles that are unavoidable. Just take them slowly.

The forest is both lush green and wintery black. The sunlight shimmered through the dripping Olympic canopy. We had the trail to ourselves until we reached the Lower Big Quilcene.
Numerous folks were walking and biking the old road grade. It was muddy and creek crossings might get your feet wet. There is no brush to speak of though.
