Trip Report

Marckworth Forest — Friday, Jan. 15, 2021

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Elwell Cliff

No matter where you enter, Marckworth forest is a remote slice of former clearcut logging road maze, and cell phone receptionless bit of washington lowland heaven. The gates, all a dozen miles apart, transformed a former shooting and party pit into a quiet second growth of hemlock and sword ferns.

No target shooting or motorized vehicles allowed. Wear hunter's orange and be aware of hunting in season. Bring a map (or several) and be prepared to mark some unmapped road intersections.

You made it sound somewhat appealing, then brought us back down with the wanted poster; although it looks to have been there awhile.
I'll be the first to complain about locked gates, but can you imagine what a mess it would be if they were open? Not surprising that most of the logging areas are gated now.

It's not a wanted poster. Reading it reveals the details. Mostly just a reminder of how remote the area is and to come prepared :) I saw a bear in fall.

Yeah, there's definitely some areas that have that "Deliverance" sort of vibe. I've found lots of abandoned campsites, a few survival shelters, and even an old camper. Kinda nervous walking up on that one. The human critters are worse than the animal ones.
