Beautiful hike. The road up to the trail head is long and full of potholes. The road was also pretty icy in some spots, I made it to the top in a Kia Soul so basically anything could of made it lol. There is a log bridge that you need to cross to continue the hike but it was too icy for me and my dog to pass safely. We continued straight onto a different trail until it turned into a no pets area. I would definitely do this again for a quick and easy day hike!

Thanks for your trip report, and for respecting the no pets boundary. Glad to hear you made it up the road and stayed safe on the icy trail.

Thanks for the report. We are considering hiking the Lower Dungeness portion of the hike, but would like to know more about the road--I drive an Impreza, which is very low slung. How much of the FS roads are paved? And how rough are they? Thanks!

Driving up to the trail head is almost entirely dirt road. Absolutely full of potholes. I don’t think a super low car would do well unfortunately.
