We arrived at the trailhead around 10 AM and parking was nearly full. We didn't think the road was as bad as others mentioned. There is one VERY large pothole but otherwise not a big deal.
The first half of the hike is very easy, wide, and flat. Prior to the bridge, you turn off to the left. There are quite a few trees down over the trail but nothing that can't be scrambled over or under. The trail is steep and slippery in places. We were glad we had our spikes and poles. We want to give a BIG THANKS to the person who marked the trail with neon ties on the trees. These were very helpful. We did well navigating on the way up but we lost the trail a few times on the descent.
The lake was beautiful and snow covered. We saw fewer than 10 people on the hike which was lovely.
