Trip Report

Lake Wenatchee State Park — Saturday, Mar. 6, 2021

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East

Stopped for a quick hike in the sun on my way to Leavenworth. I did the North Park option, and it was lovely. There were quite a few cars in the parking lot, but I only saw one couple on the snowshoe route the whole time I was there, so I assume the cars belonged to cross country skiers.
The trail was SUPER icy, so microspikes were a necessity. There are patches of the trail that are no longer snow-covered, so I think snowshoes would be a bit much. In fact, one of the snowshoers I passed said as much.
Great views of the river, the lake, and (I think) Dirty Face. I also saw some trees that had been pretty chewed or pecked up by something. Initially I thought it was a woodpecker, but it was really low on the trees so I don’t know. I’ll post a pic and would love if someone could tell me what it was!

Anyone know what caused this? Woodpeckers maybe?

It’s the only possible explanation.

More likely Bigfoot with a Pileated Woodpecker on his shoulder.
