Gorgeous day for an easy out and back snowshoe on the Golden Gate trail through the Edith Creek Basin. We then had lunch in the sun and headed back. Garmin course below.
The park opened the Longmire gate around 9:30 am with about 10 cars lined up and ready to go. The road was almost completely snow free but vehicles are required to carry chains. Gate closes again at 5:00 pm.
There is some avalanche concerns on both sides of the basin so be aware of in this area and make sure and pick up a winter map at the gate as you enter. The ranger will be happy to furnish one.
The tubing area was also open with four chutes. Park has snow play area well marked signs and requires social distancing in all areas.
Bathrooms at Longmire and Paradise are open but no other services.
What a fun day to be outdoors.
