Sage Hills — Sunday, Apr. 11, 2021

Central Washington > Wenatchee

Today was the perfect day to go to Sage Hills. Blue skies with a fresh breeze blowing and the perfect temperature for this desert hike. Arrived at the Day Drive parking lot at a little before 10 am to a full lot (the lot only holds four cars). Turned around to go to another lot but a friendly homeowner offered to let us park in her driveway.  Thank you very much!!

Started up the Sage hill trail where clumps of balsalm roots are blooming in bright yellow with some early lupine starting to show. There is a huge network of trails in the Foothills Trail system so we just kept going up and up as the fields of yellow balsalm roots improved in numbers. Lilting birdsong (we could not see the birds no matter how hard we tried) gave us a happy spring to our step. The views of Wenatchee improved as we went up.

Found a rock to have a little lunch  and water break before heading up some more along Lightening trail before realizing that this loop was a little longer than we wanted to do so backtracked down to make a loop out of Gut Trail to Jackhammer Trail then Maiden Lane Trail. There are so many different choices that one can take on this network of trails and we found Gaia and All Trails to work very well. There were lots of mountain bikers along the lower and upper trails as well as trail runners and other hikers.  Saw one paraglider hovering in the blue blue sky.

Would recommend going out this week for perfect temperatures to see the hills of gold.
