I was the only one on the trail at all. This was great until about 2 miles from the gate, at which point there was a giant pile of fresh scat that looked like it had been made by a creature big enough to have made me its next meal. I made what they call a "business decision" and turned back.
Apart from getting spooked, the trail is quite pretty. The waterfall is right near the start and is very dramatic. There's a big rock slide to scramble over in the first mile. Once the trail goes down next to the creek it gets pretty muddy, but in exchange you get some beautiful plant life. That plant life does get into the trail and brush your shins a lot.
I want to come back, but next time with long pants, a friend or two, and the bear necessities.

Way to venture "off the beaten path" so to speak! We saw that bear on both our recent trips here, not huge and just as scared of us as they always are. Make a little noise to alert them to your presence and they will avoid you.
So no one gets the wrong idea, there is very little mud on this trail, and there will be less later in the season.
And, Donbot, Welcome to the WTA!
