Trip Report

Mount Walker — Wednesday, May. 5, 2021

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

My first time hiking Mt Walker. With 2000' in 2 miles it is a great training hike! I  definitely noticed stairs that evening).  We enjoyed views of the Olympics, Mt Baker, Mt Rainier  - but the rest of the Cascades were mostly obscured. Well graded trail is in great condition. Met several hikers on the way, along with a number of well behaved dogs. About half wore masks when passing (...the humans, that is). Ran into about 6 cars on top. The pit toilets are open and stocked with TP and some have hand cleaner too. The lower gate is open, so you can park at the "true" trailhead. (No crawdad shells seen at the gate as  was previously reported.) A great early season hike. I'll do it again.
