Beware of bears. We initially encountered a cub at the beginning of our hike sitting about 10 feet from the trail not far from Windy Point Lookout; no adult bear spotted at this time. Towards the end of the trail, about a quarter to half mile from our car (close to 1720), we encountered an adult black bear, located about 20 feet from the trail, that stomped the ground and huffed at us as we passed. We didn't even see the bear until after it made its presence known.
The trail conditions were bad in several areas. Be prepared to traverse avalanche debris. We enjoyed the hike, as it was a beautiful day and very quiet on the trail. We only passed four other hikers.
