Let me start off by saying this area of the park is gorgeous. Old growth forest, hanging moss, mossy glades, secluded bubbling streams. I mean, what else could you ask for? Well, a weed whacker, for one. Maybe a chainsaw.
The trail from the trail head to Bogachiel camp is actually in pretty good shape. A few muddy areas, maybe a single tree down that is easy to navigate. Even the rope section (there is a washout about 3.5 miles in that the trail has been redirected upslope) was somewhere between easy and moderate difficulty. It was not as easy as walking level ground, but not as hard as something you would think would need a rope to climb up.
After Bogachiel camp, though, it is a different story. Several downed trees, mud & overgrown sections make this route difficult. My plan was to hike out to Flapjack, but eneded up turning around about a mile and a half past Bogichiel camp and ended up camping there.
A note about Bogichiel: There was only one "official" camp site I saw, and no signs, just a hint of a trail off to the right about 6 miles from the trailhead just past Indian Pass Trail junction. The site was on a sandy area overlooking the river, and is a lovely place to pitch a tent.
This place is, as I've said, gorgeous, despite the trail conditions further on. It is the kind of place where you would expect to see fairies darting behind trees or wood nymphs and absolutely worth the trip.
