The thing about this hike is that it connects to a much bigger trail system along the east bank of the Nooksack River. Park at the access areas along Slater Road and walk either direction along the river. Walking south from Slater, it's about 2 miles to the access / ending point at Marine Drive. Walking north, which is what I did this day, its about 2.25 miles to the boat ramp in Ferndale, and passes a trail to nearby Tennant Lake and goes right through Hovander Park. It's dead flat whichever direction you go. The path north of Slater is park quality. The path south of Slater is not quite as buffed out, but still quite nice. South of Slater can get muddy and is occasionally flooded. Stay away when the river is at or near flood stage and it's fine. Anyway, it's a super easy and pleasant walk. Good birding at Tennant Lake. I was once there with an ornithologist who became very excited about a Western Bittern.
