The drive in is pretty good - until you actually get to the stream, it's not even super potholed, there are some to be sure, but nothing outrageous. We even saw a Prius in the 1st lot. The trail is in great shape. Someone has been up there recently with a chainsaw, so there's no blowdowns at all.
Wildflower season is probably coming to a close on this trail soon, but there's still a few about to see if you can get out before the heat ends it all until next year. We even located a few of the elusive Steer's Heads. There's plenty of bitterroot up high, but once the day warms up, they curl up and you can't even see them. On a clear day you get wonderful view of the Stewarts and Mt. Rainier.
There's a stream near the bottom, but once you pass the first couple of switch backs, there's no water to be seen - make sure you take enough. The first 1/2 a mile or so is steep, but after that the grade is pretty pleasant.
