Incredible view of Mount Rainier. Nice views in other directions as well. Road and trail are completely snow free. Gate still closed. It's just over 1 mile round trip hike from the parking area near the gate.
Bugs: None.
Road: Very rough road. It's about 25-30 min from turning off from Chinook Pass Hwy to the gate. The first section is on a gravel road that has many large potholes (including a big one right after the turn off, so make sure you start watching for them immediately). It's doable in a sedan but definitely should be careful, I bottomed out slightly a couple of times in my Impreza. After that is a rocky dirt road to the top, bumpy but otherwise in decent condition.
Parking lot: Plenty of room on a Thursday.
Bathroom: None near the gate, but there is one once you get to the lookout.
