Trip Report

Crystal Peak — Sunday, Jun. 20, 2021

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River

Snow: See photo for the longest of the two remaining patches. Doable without traction.

Wildflowers: Some glacier lillies and phlox, but I wouldn’t call this a good wildflower hike, at least not right now.

Parking: Unless you’re in a tall vehicle that can see traffic over another tall vehicle, park on the right side of the road because you have more room to maneuver. I had to get two super nice women to help me leave because I couldn’t see oncoming traffic. If those women are reading this, I was in a fender bender last week because of a very similar situation, so I really appreciate your help.

Random: Does anyone else feel like that whole slope near the top wants to slide? Or at least do some more serious slumping? See photos for the evidence. It felt stable, but maybe not so much after another winter or two.

Reminds me of Sauk Mountain. The trail is pulling apart in the beginning and some would say it's due to trail cutting.

This case is a bit different -- Crystal Peak's caused by natural erosion AFAIK.
