North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

I did this trail after realizing my car was definitely not making it up the road to heather lake. I knew nothing about it going in and was pleasantly surprised by the views at the top.

The trail itself was VERY rocky and rooty (making words up, it’s fine). I read the wta trail description after getting home, and can confirm that the trail feels farther than the 1.2 miles up. Several hikers we met along the way said the same thing. The combination of the steady uphill climb and watching your step for rocks and roots makes it kind of slow going. Still, it was a nice shady hike on a blisteringly hot day. There also weren’t many people there compared to the hoardes of people at nearby hikes. Worth doing!
