The snow at the beginning in the trees caused us to lose the trail and we couldn't figure out how to get to the field. So we ended up going back and moving our car to where the ski lifts are and taking the gravel vehicle trail up until we saw where the trail connected.
It is a great hike to get all the different mountain and lake views. The lakes in the shade at the top still had lots of snow as well, and made it difficult to continue on.
