Forecast high in the mid-80s, so wanted to stay in the shade as much as possible. Hiked down the East Bank trail to Hidden Creek first (about 1.5 miles), where the water was running high and creating a welcome cool microclimate in the ravine. Trail in great shape all the way.
Returned to the suspension bridge and hiked up Baker River trail to Sulphide Creek for lunch. Water high there, too, but the air not as cool as at Hidden Creek because the terrain is more open. A few bugs, but most were not biting; trail also in great shape although nasty vegetation--devil's club and stinging nettles--beginning to encroach in places.
A gentle 8.5 mile hike ideal for a relatively hot day.
