We completed a one night backpack into Scott Creek along the Olympic South Coast. Arrived at the third beach trail head on a Monday at 8:30am to a parking lot that was 2/3 full- I suspect many of the cars were overnight campers. The trail to third beach is wide and extremely well maintained- a easy stroll through the woods and down to the beach. The day was forecasted to be hot and we wanted to traverse the Scott headlands at low tide, so we did not dawdle on third beach. The trail from third beach to Scott Creek involves a few scrambles- the ropes and ladders are more helpful coming back down than going up but do aid in scrambling up the headlands! We used low tide to our advantage to avoid the second overland route to Scott Creek- the sea route involves a scramble over boulders but provides an amazing view of the intertidal zone including numerous sea stars. The rocks were slippery in places but over all the scramble was very doable. There are a number of good camp sites at Scott Creek, though some provide more protection than others. There were a number of families with children but everyone was friendly and respectful. Overall, a very relaxing coastal backpack!
