Beautiful trail, absolutely terrible road. It's the worst of any of the forest roads I've taken to trailheads on the east side of the Olympics (ok, barring the ones the have washed out and become completely impassable, I guess). Seriously, I hate it. Even in my CRV, driving slowly and carefully and switching from one side of the road to the other to avoid potholes (not that you can avoid them all), it's a pretty rough ride. I wouldn't do it nor recommend it in a low-clearance sedan but I guess a lot of people drive it anyway.
The first part of the trail before it leaves the river is lovely and lush and green, just fantastic. View down the valley from Snack Rock is a great reward for doing a bit of an elevation push after leaving the river. I was satisfied and turned around there.
But seriously, who do I need to whine to for this road to get worked on??
