Trip Report

Lena Lake — Thursday, Jul. 8, 2021

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
North end of Lena Lake

Delightful hike with perfect weather! Crowds were moderate, which is expected for a Thursday. I hiked to Lower Lena, and had lunch on the west side of the lake.

Snow: none

Bugs: none

Berries: a few here and there

Water: Before the first bridge, there was only one tiny seep, which should be dried up very soon. Above the first bridge, there were a few tiny creeks, one small creek, and the one that runs under the second bridge (Lena Creek). This should be fine for some time to come.

Trail conditions: Great shape, albeit a little boot beaten and rooty in spots. No slumps, mudholes, or blowdowns.

Two WTA volunteers were out surveying the bridges, preparatory to replacement. The first bridge is too narrow for stock, which means trail crews have a difficult time getting materials up the trail. Thanks to you both for your work!
