Trip Report

Rock Mountain via Rock Lake — Saturday, Jul. 17, 2021

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East
Rock Mountain summit at the middle

The main trail description continues to be accurate — dozens and dozens of tight, dusty switchbacks going straight-up, then lengthy stretches of uphill before reaching a basin, then more switchbacks to the ridgeline to the summit after about 4 miles. It's tough!

As of 7/17/2021, no snow remains on the trail; there are some flowers left for a bit longer. Bugs are absolutely terrible once you clear the opening switchbacks - bring bugspray. Also, bring more water than you think you need. Even when the temperature is in the 60s or low 70s, if the sun is out, it will feel A LOT hotter.

If the road to the alternate route up (Snowy Creek) is passable, you may want to take that route.

Rock Mountain summit at the right
A nicer portion of the trail between the opening switchbacks and the basin showing the south prominence of the ridge line (not the summit).
