Trip Report

Park Butte — Wednesday, Jul. 28, 2021

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

Forest roads 12 and 13 are rough in places and very slow (~45 minutes), but manageable by most vehicles.
The parking area was full at 09:30 on a Wednesday, with lots of cars parked along the road. The trail was very crowded.

We had a gorgeous, clear day, with heather blooming everywhere. There were some lupine open at the lower elevations, but the big lupine field in the upper meadow was not quite ready.

Bugs were pretty bad in the trees; much less up on the meadows in the breeze.

The Rocky Creek crossing near the aluminum bridge was dicey enough in the morning. It was much harder on our way down, when there was more water.  People were glad for their poles.
