Alta Mountain, Rachel Lake — Thursday, Jul. 29, 2021

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

One of my favorite hikes so far, the first couple of miles were forested and just a gentle climb, easy crossing of some creeks, then the climb begins which is rocky, rooty and steep, poles were a must for me. Fortunately it is mostly in the forest and not too hot. The views of the stream and waterfalls were beautiful. I enjoyed my lunch and went swimming at Rachel Lake, the bugs were somewhat annoying and I did use quite a bit of Deet. The steep hike up to Rampart Ridge provides some amazing views of Rachel Lake. I continued on to Alta Mountain but I did turn around about ¼ mile from the top...I was hiking alone and it felt pretty steep and exposed up there. Stunning views from Alta of Mt Rainier, Hibox Peak, Chikamin, Lila Lake and more. I would like to return and spend a couple days exploring Lila Lake and Rampart Lakes.
